First concocted in 1943 to warm cold American passengers off a PanAm flight, this drink is basically a piping-hot coffee, Irish whiskey and cream, all put into a rejuvenating shot that will warm you on the chilliest of winter evenings! Or, you could always opt for the chilled version, which is perfect for those balmy, summer evenings. The popular garnish of a sprinkling of nutmeg not only looks pretty, but tastes pretty good too. Make sure you grate it well and sprinkle generously on top.

1 cup freshly brewed hot coffee

1 tbsp brown sugar

3 tbsp Irish whiskey

Heavy cream, slightly whipped

1. Preheat a mug: Fill it with hot water, then empty out. Pour the piping-hot coffee into the warmed glass until it is three-fourths full.

2. Stir in the brown sugar until completely dissolved, then blend in the Irish whiskey. Top with the whipped heavy cream.

3. Get the cream to float on top of the coffee without mixing by pouring it over the back of a spoon.

3. Serve hot.
